My156 1.9 JTDM has recently started to do the same thing. Before it would always be sitting a bit above the 70 mark, reaching 90 when in traffic. Yesterday the temperature outside was 10 degrees Celsius when I left for work in the morning and for most part of the journey (13 miles of city driving) the temperature was below the 1st mark.
Ihaven't seen plastic intake manifolds up close, so I cannot say if the system is identical to metal intakes on JTDm engines, where you can fix swirl flap actuator with a zip tie in open position, thus greatly reducing the risk of flap ingestion. This can be your temporary fix until you decide to proceed with a complete de-flap.Bythe way it was the 1.9JTD 8V actually first fitted on the 97 156. And I don't agree all JTD engines are M-Jetyes, they do have many injectors but M-jet engines are those after 2003.
